– Phase II Contract No. 24-309-005 Report for June 1 through June 30, 2024.
PROJECT SUMMARY
The New Boston Main Interceptor (NBMI) is a critical part of the BWSC's wastewater system, carrying sewage and stormwater from more than 3,000 acres in City neighborhoods. Due to severe degradation, the NBMI system needs to be rehabilitated. The goal of this project is to rehabilitate a 2,000-foot portion of the existing 102-inch NBMI and two major sewer structures. The sewer system is approximately 25 to 35 feet deep, and rehabilitation work is being done in a “trenchless” manner to avoid deep excavation along the pipe length and to minimize neighborhood and traffic disruption. This Contract involves rehabilitation a portion of the NBMI system under Preble Street and Moakley Park. Most of the work is done from within Moakley Park and a parking lot owned by the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority (MWRA).
PIPE SLIPLINING (MOAKLEY PARK)
Completed excavation work, removed top half of pipe within jacking pit, installed working floor and thrust block collar; crews are assembling slipline pipe offsite at Contractor’s facility. Upcoming work: Sliplining jacking to commence in July.
SPECIAL MANHOLE A (MWRA PROPERTY)
Completed cleaning. Rehabilitation work is planned to be done following sliplining work.
SPECIAL MANHOLE B (MOAKLEY PARK)
Rehabilitation work is planned to be done following sliplining work.
Concrete thrust block collar installed around the pipe.
